I started my career in trading and investment management. That led me to specialise in international commercial transactions for investors. For over 13 years I’ve built global structures that saved clients tens of millions in tax alone.

Exiting capital from the USA to Costa Rica. Cook Islands trusts to protect crypto projects. Territorial-income operating companies through Hong Kong and Panama. VASP licensing and fund setups through the BVI and UAE. SPVs in the UK for projects. Free-zone commodity trading companies exempt from tax. IP holding structures with US LLCs to capture tax-treaty shopping. There are many ways to set up and reduce tax.

But saving taxes is not the same as protection. I learned this the hard way, over a three-year period in which I lost everything.

Hacks. Identity theft. KYC scams. Social engineering by “close” friends. Ransomed by corrupt police. Insurance blackmail, bent bankers, and authorities demanding tax in cash. Law firm escrows siphoning funds. Licensed investment managers vanishing with client money.

The higher I climbed, the more predators appeared. I kept making decisions from a weak position, and waiting for change. Reacting, conceding, paying. And losing.

Somewhere along the way I’d missed my own blind spots and become a target. A patsy, wide open for attack. I blamed it on a broken system. Corruption. Unethical people. Fraudsters.

With nothing left, I sat in the guilt and shame of the consequences of my own actions. After a while it hit me. Here’s what I’d misunderstood.

The system is not broken. It works exactly as designed. Some benefit, most pay. Those who benefit have built a position deliberately. The ones who pay accept what they’re told, what they’re given, and wait for a change.

In reality, there’s no award waiting on your deathbed for being a model citizen… For following the rules that bend in favour of those who create them…

Freedom and protection don’t come from a lawyer, a government, or a KYC check. They come from using the rules to use the system in your favour, just like the people who made the rules do.

These days I work under this philosophy: Behaviour reveals priorities. Incentives drive behaviour. And vulnerabilities become incentives.

To live a life of freedom, you must become someone who is not worth going after. A high-effort and low return on investment target. To do this, saving tax is the entry point. But as your money grows, it’s your peace of mind and freedom that become the real payoff.
